			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Friday last week marked an historic achievement &#8211; the transmission of images via holography over long distance (see the recent <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/3459767/Holograph-technology-allows-Star-Wars-style-video-conferencing.html" target="_blank">Torygraph article</a>).</p>
<p>OK. so the use of holography isn&#8217;t that new. For a while. HP has been looking into holographic data storage (and strugglng to develop a commercially viable application). And even good ol Prince Charlie had a go at the recent Climate Conference. But until now, live bidirectional holography wasn&#8217;t commercialy possible or viable. And OK, so this currently costs c£35K, but given the current state of technological development, I&#8217;m wondering how long it will be before this is a facility that all phones are developed with.</p>
<p>And how long before some smart alec develops the Star Trek Holodeck? Now that WOULD be cool&#8230;</p>
<p>Second life, schmecond life. I&#8217;m struggling to stay in touch with this one.</p>
